About us

Nonsuch History and Dance is a national charity, UNESCO group member of International Dance Council, founded in 1966 by Peggy Dixon a performance company, to teach, train and entertain through historic dance.

We take our inspiration from dances of all historical periods including: Medieval, Renaissance, Baroque and Victorian

We work with with local communities to promote, educate and entertain audiences through:

  • performing shows

  • running schools workshops

  • bringing history to life in stately homes.

International Summer Course

2026 Golden Ages

Sightseeing historical sites of Scotland and recreating the dances of famous people like Robert the Bruce, Mary Queen of Scots, Robert Burns, and Queen Victoria.

Join us for a very special evening at Woodland House Hotel, featuring Dumfries Historical Dance Society and dances from 18th century. Everyone welcome.

Previous Events

Nonsuch has hosted and performed at numerous events over the last 50 years at prestgious venies, such as Sadlers Wells and the British Museum to name a few.
